French Finess

I am sticking with my virtual European vacation and now we are headed over to France.  I found this beautiful home, courtesy of Remodelista.  It is a Provençal stone farmhouse in Nîmes with whitewashed interiors, owned by an antiques dealer and decorated with accessories from the area. Via Light Locations.

I love the use of weathered wood and the pale blue throughout the home, from the furniture to even the ceiling! (check out my older post about fun ways you can incorporate your ceiling into the design of your home)

below are some ways your can bring some of the french county side into your home;

(I love the X-shaped base of the table)

Italian Getaway

I've been getting the itch to pick up and travel to Italy as of late!  I love the Rustic/Tuscan feel that can be incorporated anywhere from Italy to California!

Ah, Venice!  I love the brightly colored buildings!  Lime-based paint is a great way to bring Italy into your home!  below is a picture of a blue lime-washed wall that would be beautiful in any room of the house!  Side-note: many Italians use blue in the kitchen to increase appetites!

terracotta tiles are a must! whether it be for the roof shingles or for the flooring!

Note the terracotta floors, chestnut beams and stone walls!

and finally, what is a true rustic Italian home without a pillared pergola to sit and enjoy some wine and company?!

Want to give your home an Italian makeover?? here are some paint suggestions!

Home to Self

As you know, I have professed my love for the Ralph Lauren "La Plage" collection.  That being said; I've decided to take my favorite inspiration picture from the collection and turn it into a real life outfit.  interior design meets fashion (my favorittteee).  so here it goes

I love the stripe pattern paired with the floral pattern and I can't help but thinking it would make a fabulous outfit!

thoughts??
I was invited to join this great site named Look Ville!  I think it is a fabulous idea where anyone can post pictures up of an outfit and receive feedback!  I always said if i wasn't in interior design I would LOVE to be a stylist so this is my chance!  I will be posting some fun outfits up later on.  side note:  what a great way to test out a potential date outfit!  you can confidently go out to a wedding, date, interview, etc and know your outfit is to die for!

Declutter Dilemma!

I, as I am sure many other persons, hoard magazines like it's my job.  I just can't seem to part with them no matter how old of an issue it may be.  When I moved from Connecticut to California I was actually forbidden to bring my boxes marked "magazines."  My stepfather could not see the sense in carting old magazines 3,000 miles across the country.

I meticuulously went through and tore out all my earmarked pages and put them in a binder, however, my collection is quickly gaining size once more.  My book case looks cluttered and I have random stacks on night stands and coffee tables!  here is my quick solution to de-clutter my space

BASKETS!!!! they can function like little cubby holes: stylish, afforadable, and you can place them anywhere!  The bookcase, under the bed, a corner, shelves!

Salvaged!

Lately I've been really loving homes using salvaged wood throughtout,  whether it be an old door used as a dining room table or doors used as wall panels! I think it adds character and history to a room!  the pictures below are from an article in Elle Decor were Botbol, who oversees the women’s collections at Polo Ralph Lauren, his partner, Arthur Krystofiak, an entrepreneur in hospitality and real estate.  They were interested only in “restoration and preservation,” Botbol says. and came up with the idea for "a kind of neo-Gothic barn with a modernist twist.”

The dining room walls are doors salvaged from an old ship and they then added vertical windows and skylights to the main room

The staircase in the den is a sculputral modern version of a staircase because they would not find an antique.  the modern staircase is a great contrast to the casually displayed artwork, persian rug and salvaged wood. The barn had been moved in the 1860s from a nearby farm, and then, around 1910, the crisscross windows, salvaged from an old church were added.

Finally, I found this great site based out of my very own San Diego named Sea Junk that specializes in authentic old ship relics from around the world at Maidhof Bros. Shipware.
